Walking & Hiking

There are 350km of prepared and well signposted trails in Saas Fee.

Walking Weeks
Themed walking weeks are arranged with the help of Urs Zurbriggen of the Hotel Beau Site. A charge of CHF70 applies per person per week and includes 5 guided walks and 2 packed lunches. Please specify at the time of booking if you wish to participate (you may stay at any of the Saas Fee hotels to participate).

The following walks are available:

Springtime: 13-20 June & 20-27 June
Upper Valais: 4-11 July & 29 August-5 September
Holy Waters: 8-15 August & 12-19 September
In the footsteps of the Valais people: 11-18 July & 15-22 August.

The walking time with ascents and descents varies between three and five hours, with plenty of stops and refreshments. All walks commence on a Saturday and are suitable for reasonably fit people.

You will need good walking boots, anorak, sunglasses, hat and a small rucksack. Please note: walking routes are subject to minimum numbers.

Other Activities

Tennis
There are 5 outdoor courts and 2 indoor courts from CHF22 per hour. Instruction is also available.

Summer Skiing and Snowboarding
There are over 20km of prepared pistes on the glacier (usually from early July). Equipment is available for hire in resort. Don't forget to take extra insurance cover.

Biking
Maps are available from the tourist office with mountain bike trails and bike hire is available from CHF38 per person per day.

Swimming
There is an indoor pool, sauna, whirlpool, solarium and steambath, available from CHF15

This is a delightful and picturesque car-free village (bar a few necessary service vehicles) set in a beautiful valley at 1800m. Saas Fee offers truly spectacular views of 13 peaks over 4000m. Flower decked wooden chalets, narrow winding streets, superb scenery and pure mountain air all combine to offer a relaxing holiday.

Above Saas Fee rise some of the highest peaks in the Alps and there are a variety of cable cars to take you the easy way, including the Alpine Express gondola and the Alpine Metro. At 3500m this is the world's highest underground train and leads to the glacier at Mittelallalin where you will also find the world's highest revolving restaurant with magnificent views and an ice pavillion inside the glacier.

With its Alpine meadows and pine woods this is wonderful walking country. The paths are well marked and signposts also show the walking times. It is a popular and lively village with a variety of shops as well as attractive cafes and bars for you to enjoy in the evenings. A visit to the old town of Brig in the Rhone Valley is well worthwhile.
