Lake Lugano

In the south east of Switzerland on the border of Italy sits this small and beautiful palm tree lined lake surrounded by mountains, which makes up one of Italy's Lakes Region.

As more people become aware of the beauty of this area, holidays to Lake Lugano have become increasingly popular as tourists discover its year round Mediterranean style climate combined with magnificent scenery and Italian architecture.

Set on the southern fringes of the Alps and with unspoilt landscapes and traditional villages, activity holidays in Lake Lugano are particularly popular with mountain biking and walking the main activities. Watersports are also a favourite past time of visitors including sailing, windsurfing and water skiing on this beautiful lake.

The lake promenade is packed with cafes and restaurants overlooking the waters, and behind this in the narrow, winding cobbled streets you will find piazzas packed with cafes and with excellent shopping from traditional markets to up market Italian boutiques. 

Despite the peace and tranquillity of this pretty area, the small city of Lugano, which sits on the lake, is the most important in southern Switzerland - despite it being an Italian spoken area - and this is reflected in the sophisticated and stylish feel of the area.
