Free Interlaken Excursions
The following excursions with English commentary are free of charge and organised by the Interlaken tourist office.

City Walk:
Enjoy a guided walk to some of the sights of Interlaken. Every Monday at 17.00 (Jun-Sep), subject to a minimum of four people attending.

Guided Village Tour of Bonigen:
A walk of about one hour through the traditional Swiss village with its wood carved houses, followed by an apéritif. Every Tuesday from end May to Sep.

Interlaken tourist office
Visit the tourist office for details of free walks, tours and excursions available to all visitors to Interlaken.

Deal Passes

Jungfraubahnen Pass:
This Pass, valid 1 May to 31 October, is arranged by Jungfrau Railways and provides unlimited travel on the most extensive network of routes around the region, linking Interlaken and Wilderswil to Grindelwald, Murren and Kleine Scheidegg, as well as Mannlichen, Schynige Platte, Harder Kulm, First, Grosse Scheidegg, Pfingstegg and Bussalp. A 50% reduction is granted between Eigergletscher ad Jungfraujoch. At CHF 150 with the half fare pass, the half represents great value for exploring the Jungfrau Region. It is valid for any 6 consecutive days and can be purchased from your resort representative.


Regional Pass
This 7 days regional pass gives 3 days free transport in the Bernese Oberland with the remainig 4 days at a reduction.

INTERLAKEN VISITORS CARD , card issued to each hotel guest entitles all visitors to the resort to free bus journeys around the Interlaken valley.

Walking Tour

Experience hiking in the beautiful pastures and mountain trails that criss-cross the Bernese Oberland. Walk past the dramatic profile of the Eiger and on to flower-carpeted meadows and clear mountain streams on this independent tour where you  streams on this independent tour where your luggage is sent on ahead!

Day 1:
Fly from your chosen UK airport to Zurich or Geneva and take train to Wengen, where you'll stay for two nights at Hotel Sunstar, Wengen.

Day 2:At leisure in Wengen. Maybe take the train to the Jungfraujoch.

Day 3:
Mountain walk to Wengeralp, the foot of the Eiger and into Grindelwald (walking time aprox 7 hours). Three nights accommodation at Hotel Sunstar, Grindelwald.

Days 4 & 5:
At leisure in Grindelwald, where you could visit the beautiful Alpine Garden at Schynige Platte.

Day 6:
Walk through lush pastures of the Horbach until Grosse Scheidegg, with fantastic views of the Wetterhorn. Follow clear mountain streams to the Schwarzwald-Alp and Rosenlaui before reaching the Reichenbach Falls (where Sherlock Holmes met his untimely end!). Walk time aprox. 7 hours, which can be shortened with gondolas. Two nights accommodation at Park Hotel du Sauvage.

Day 7:
At leisure in delightful Meiringen.

Day 8:
Train back to Zurich or Geneva for your return flight.

Towering majestically above the Bernese Oberland is the glistening snow clad peak of the Jungfrau. Together with its equally impressive neighbours, the Eiger and Mönch, it forms one of the most spectacular vistas in the world. Bernese Oberland Excursions

THE JUNGFRAUJOCH
A fascinating and unforgettable full day excursion in the mountains to the highest railway station in Europe at 3454m. The upward journey from Interlaken or Wilderswil is via Lauterbrunnen and then on the cogwheel railway up through the Alpine village of Wengen and on to Kleine Scheidegg at 2061m. At Scheidegg you change trains for the final ascent on the rack and pinion railway up through the solid rock o the north face of the Eiger to the everlasting snow at the Jungfraujoch.Here there are three restaurants, a sun terrace and some fascinating  sights including the Ice Palace, the Aletsch Glacier and of course the most fantastic views over the Alps. The return journey is via Grindelwald.

THE SCHILTHORN
A fabulous cable car system to the top of the Schilthorn at 2970m which was featured in the James Bond film 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'. Reached from Interlaken by way of the charming village of Murren, the summit has a large revolving restaurant and sun terrace and offers you an outstanding view over the ' roof of Switzerland'.

SCHYNIGE PLATTE
A quaint old rain takes you from Wilderswil to the Botanical Alpine flower garden at 1967m (mid June to end Sept).

LAKE STEAMERS
The graceful boats and paddle steamers with restaurants, bars and large sun decks ply to and fro on both Lake Brienz and Lake Thun and offer an ideal way of enjoying the sun and the scenery.

BRIENZER ROTHORN
One of the last steam rack and pinion railways. Take the lake steamer to Brienz and join the  Picturesque train that chugs its way up to the Rothorn at 2350m. (From about the first week of June - end Oct.)

HARDER KULM
A funicular takes you up to this superb vantage point at 1322m above Interlaken. There is a restaurant and a large terrace from where there are magnificent views across Interlaken to the great peaks of the Bernese Oberland including the Jungfrau. 

TRUMMELBACH FALLS
These impressive waterfalls are deep inside the mountains near Lauterbrunnen. An underground funicular, tunnels, galleries and bridges make the falls accessible. The only falls of their kind in the world which are accessible to visitors.

BALLENBERG OPEN-AIR MUSEUM
Over 100 of farmhouses form the 17th & 18th centuries have been reconstructed in a 53 hectare site on the Alpine meadows above Lake Brienz. Museum is really not the right word for this fascinating view of life in  past centuries open from Apr-Oct. Good footwear is recommended.

JOBIN LIVING MUSEUM
Switzerland has a rich tradition of old and contemporary arts and crafts. At the living museum you will learn the art of wood carving and can crate personalised authentic crafts including musical jewellery boxes and paperweights, carved wooden plates and cows. This is a unique interactive experience and is the chance for you to take home the perfect souvenir of your holiday.
